Kellogg recall: boxes of Kellogg's Froot Loops, Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, and Honey Smacks sit on the shelf of a Mt. Lebanon, Pa., grocery store Friday, June 25. Kellogg Co. is voluntarily recalling about 28 million boxes of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops, and Honey Smacks cereals because of a "waxy" smell and flavor coming from the package liners, the company said.

A massive Kellogg's cereal recall announced Friday includes 1.7 million cases of breakfast cereal containing some 28 million individual boxes sold at retailers nationwide.

The recalled food products contained an “uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell coming from the liner” of the plastic packaging, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a statement. The FDA acknowledged that the risk for serious health problems is low, consumers are encouraged to discard the products as they could cause upset stomach.

Kellogg’s brand Corn Pops, Honey Smacks, Froot Loops, and Apple Jacks cereals are included in the voluntary recall.
