Nor'easter

A poem.

Nor'easter

I felt the house shake – the rain poured
The waves screamed –
The wind raged –
Nor'easter slammed the coast

I had nailed planks
Across the windows –
Like pirate patches
On blind men's eyes

I waited – the gallon jugs filled –
The shortwave tuned –
I checked the flashlight again
Spotlighting – a Gypsy Moth –

Caged – behind the screen
Bronze – against black glass
As the storm howled
Her wing tips – barely fluttered.
