Despite US request, Israel continues shelling PLO
Israel, ignoring a US request that Yasser Arafat's Palestinian forces be allowed to evacuate from Lebanon unimpeded, continued to shell Palestinian guerrilla positions in northern Lebanon Tuesday from gunboats in this city's port.
But Israeli Vice-Premier David Levy said in an interview Tuesday that his country has no intention of attacking Mr. Arafat and his men if they are evacuated from Tripoli by sea. Sources in Lebanon said the PLO might evacuate today.
Israel has condemned the UN for allowing Greek ships to evacuate Arafat's forces under its flag.
