China backing Thailand against Viet incursions
China announced its backing Tuesday for Thailand against Vietnamese military incursions from neighboring Kampuchea. A Foreign Ministry spokesman quoted by the official China Daily, said, ''Vietnam's criminal action is a grave violation of Thailand's territory and sovereignty and a serious threat to peace and security in Southeast Asia.'' His statement followed accusations by Peking that Hanoi was also making trouble along the Chinese border.
Thailand's Foreign Ministry briefed envoys of the European Community, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, and New Zealand Monday and asked their governments to condemn the Vietnamese incursion, a ministry spokesman said in Bangkok.
