*JAZZ/CLASSICAL
Dave Brubeck, Roland Hanna, Dick Hyman - Jazz Sonatas (Angel): The usually classical Angel label is swinging with some wonderfully fresh variations on the mingling of jazz and classical music that began long ago with Stravinsky, Milhaud, and Ravel. @CDText = Brubeck writes for An die Musik (string trio plus oboe and piano), which superbly plays his glinting tribute to Bach's ``Chromatic Fantasy.'' No need to call this jazz, though its multiple rhythms include a hint of ``Take Five.'' Pianist Hanna's brilliant improvision emerges seamlessly from his deftly scored accompaniment of flute, French horn, and cello. Pianist Hyman plays propulsive chordal patterns to kindle a sometimes lush, sometimes pell-mell, violin.
