News brief
Airport strikes ahead of Thanksgiving. Workers who clean airplanes, remove trash, and help with wheelchairs at the Charlotte, North Carolina, airport went on strike Nov. 25 during a busy week of Thanksgiving travel to demand higher wages. The companies have acknowledged the seriousness of a strike during the holiday travel season at one of the busiest airports in the U.S., but American Airlines doesn’t expect “any significant disruption” to its flights. Union officials said most of the workers earn $12.50 to $19 an hour, but Rev. Glencie Rhedrick of the Charlotte Clergy Coalition for Justice said they should make $22 to $25 an hour.
