Clarence Thomas agrees to updated ethics laws. The federal courts will not refer allegations that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas may have violated ethics laws to the Justice Department. The judiciary’s policymaking body said on Jan. 2 that Mr. Thomas has agreed to follow updated requirements on reporting trips and gifts. The statement from the United States Judicial Conference came in response to calls by Democratic senators for an investigation into Mr. Thomas’s undisclosed acceptance of luxury trips. The Supreme Court adopted its first code of ethics in 2023, though the new code still lacks a means of enforcement.
