Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Six-hour standoff at South Korea president’s residence ends. South Korean investigators have left the president’s official residence Jan. 3 after a nearly six-hour standoff during which he defied their attempted detainment. Thousands of police officers gathered at Mr. Yoon’s residence, forming a perimeter around a growing group of pro-Yoon protesters in the latest confrontation in a crisis that has paralyzed South Korean politics and seen two heads of state impeached in under a month. Mr. Yoon’s defense minister, police chief, and several top military commanders have already been arrested over their roles in the period of martial law.
