Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.

Do you know what time is? No, not “what time is it?” But “what time is.” We’re Rebecca Asoulin and Eoin O’Carroll. And we’re the hosts of a podcast series from the Monitor called “It’s About Time.” In this science series, we interview experts on time. Because understanding time more deeply can help you make the most of the time you have.

We talk to everyone from science fiction writer Ted Chiang to physicist Alan Lightman to academic and cultural critic Brittney Cooper. We also talk to a magician, a 9-year-old preoccupied with her alarm clock, and a performer who stutters.

Working on this series changed our relationships with time. It helped Eoin with time management. And it helped both of us be more compassionate. Toward others – especially toward people who don’t have the same access to time – as well as toward ourselves.

What are you waiting for? Time waits for no one!
