North Vietnamese General Lê Ðức Thọ was awarded the prize along with US National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger in 1973, for the pair's secret talks that eventually led to a cease-fire in Indochina. Lê declined the award, saying that Kissinger had violated the truce. Kissinger accepted the award. The award to Kissinger and Lê prompted two Norwegian Nobel Committee members to resign.
