January 4, 1980

Leftist gunmen firing automatic rifles killed the manager of the Turkish office of El Al, the Israeli airline, as he drove home from work, police said Thursday. The "Marxist-Leninist Armed Propaganda Group" later claimed responsibility for the killing Wednesday night of Avraham Elazar and accused him of having been a secret agent. The same leftist group also claimed responsibility for the murders of four American servicemen in Istanbul Dec. 14.
