1 in 5 Swedes earns undeclared 'black money'
January 9, 1980
Almost 20 percent of the Swedish labor force did some work for "black money," cash not declared for taxes, last year, according to an opinion poll published Tuesday. Abot 750,000 Swedes earned $475 million on such work, according to a poll by the Swedish institute for Public Opinion Research, published in the newspaper Arbetet. Black-market labor in Sweden is increasing because of the high rate of taxation -- about 50 percent of the average income.
