Prime Minister Indira Gandhi said Wednesday night there was no justification for the Soviet military intervention in Afghanistan. Mrs. Gandhi spoke to reporters after a 45-minute meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, Lord Carrington, who arrived for talks on the Afghan crisis and other problems.
Asked whether India justified the Soviet action in Afghanistan, she said: "I don't think that any country is justified in entering another country. I don't think we supported the action."
Her reply contradicted earlier official statements accepting Moscow's explanations for the presence of Soviet troops in Afghanistan.
