CBS keeps on posting top ratings in TV race

January 23, 1980

CBS has turned into the "miracle" network of the season, Monitor TV critic Arthur Unger reports. For the first season since 1976, CBS has regained a role as top network, tying ABC for that position through, Jan. 20. NBC is a poor third.

This week CBS took first place for the ninth time in 11 weeks, and the fifth week in row. Six of the top 10 shows were CBS programs. Its new series -- "House Calls," "Trapper John," and "Knots Landing" -- all coasted along among the few new successes of the season.

The top 10 shows were: (1) Superbowl (CBS); (2) Superbowl postgame (CBS); (3) "Sixty Minutes" (CBS); (4) "Three's Company" (ABC); (5) "Mash" (CBS); (6) "Taxi" (ABC); (7) "Fantasy Island" (ABC); (8) "Dallas" (CBS); (9) "Love Boat" (ABC); ( 10) "Dukes of Hazzard" (CBS).
