Story of Philippines funds for MacArthur is disputed

An Army officer in the War Department during World war II said Wednesday that Gen. Douglas MacArthur tried to raise $500,000 in gold to pay for guerilla operations in the Philippines and apparently got that money from then-Philippines President Manuel Quezon, Retired Lt. Col. Virgil H. Williams of Columbus disputed the account of Dr. Carol M. Petillo, who said she had seen an executive order signed by Quezon authorizing the transfer of funds to General MacArthur's New York bank account as "a gesture of gratitude for the past advice of the general and his staff.
