L.A. airport outgrows additions

Just when it began to look as if all its major airport construction programs had been completed and the temporary structures has all but disappeared, Los Angeles International Airport has opened up the first of three huge bubblelike, air- supported structures to relieve pressure on its overcrowded internationla-arrival facilities.

Temporary does not always mean inexpensive, as the $3.3 million price tag for the three structures indicates. The bubbles will deflate when the five-year capital-improvement program, just getting under way, is completed. This $535 million effort calls for a new international terminal by 1983, an additional domestic terminal, and double-deck roadways throughout the main terminal area.
