Tanker people protest in collision inquiry
February 1, 1980
Tampa, Fla.
Attorneys representing the owners and crew of the tanker Capricorn are objecting to the investigation of their ship's collision with the US Coast Guard cutter Blackthorn, Monitor contributor Gil Klein reports. The board of inquiry handling the case is made up predominantly of representatives of the Coast Guard , which, the attorneys say, has a vested interest in the outcome of the inquiry.
Six Coast Guardsmen aboard the Blackthorn were confirmed dead and 17 others still missing and presumed dead. The cutter sank with minutes of impact Monday night.
