Torture by Argentines charged

Hundreds of men and women in Argentine concentration camps are tortured with electric prods, and some are subjected to the "final decision" -- being dropped unconscious from an airplane into the sea -- two former inmates said Monday. If the prisoners are Jewish, their torture also includes having to kneel before a picture of Hitler or Mussolini, the two said in a chilling account of deprivation, torture, and death published by Amnesty International.

The independent human rights organization, based in London, said it spent months cross-checking the story before releasing it.

The two men, Oscar Alfredo Gonzales, a union activist, and Horacio Guillermo, a student leader, said they escaped last Feb. 18 while being taken to La Plata for interrogation. They said that between them they spent 15 months in five camps.
