US, Olympic Committee lock horns over Moscow

The United States and the international sports community appeared locked in an uncompromising battle Sunday over the fate of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.
Secretary of State Cyrus Vance carried the US diplomatic campaign against the Soviet Union to the International Olympic Committee Saturday night with a firm demand that the summer games be moved from the Soviet capital.
The Soviet news agency Tass blasted the Vance speech as "crude political interference" in the committee's affairs.
Mr. Vance broke with tradition by making a political speech at the opening of the committee session before the winter Olympics at this mountain village in upstate New York. He had a silent reception from the members, who will decide in the next few days whether to act on demands for a site change.
