Trade commission given a temporary reprieve

The House Appropriations Committee voted Thursday to keep the beleaguered Federal Trade Commission running for another 45 days, but it was unclear whether the action came soon enough to prevent at least a temporary shutdown.
As of March 15 the FTC will be without money or technical authority to continue operating. Its chairman has said he would have to clock the door because the law prevents federal employees from volunteering their services.
