Mrs. Gandhi voices regret over clubbing incident

Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi said Monday she regretted that police had beaten up a group of blind people in an incident that led an angry opposition to walk out of both houses of Parliament. About 100 blind men were injured by the police as they marched toward Mrs. Ghandi's house Sunday to petition her for jobs.

She told enraged opposition members in the Lok Sabha (lower house) she was sorry about the incident and had ordered a judicial inquiry with a report due within three weeks.
