Shah's journey irks Tehran crowd

Tens of thousands of Iranians marched on the US Embassy in Tehran Tuesday protesting the deposed Shah's move to Egypt and demanding the American hostages to put on trial. An angry crowd estimated at between 50,000 and 60,000 demonstrated outside the US Emabassy but there were no reports of violence, UPI correspondent Adrianus Van Helfterten reported from Tehran. The crowd shouted denounciations of Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat and "American Imperialism." Iranian Foreign Minister Sadeq Ghotbzadeh said Tuesday the deposed Shah's flight to Egypt represented a moral victory for Iran but a setback for the hostages at the US Embassy in Tehran. He also said he did not believe the Egyptian government had any say in the matter of the Shah's move. "The Egyptian government has no sovereignty," he said, implying he considered it to be a US puppet regime.

In Cairo, President Sadat said the Shah would live in Egypt permanently no matter how much shouting came from Tehran.
