Picasso's widow, Jacqueline, has stepped into a fight among four Spanish cities over the artist's masterpiece "Guernica," saying it should hang in Madrid's Prado Museum. Madrid; Guernica; Malaga, Picasso's birthplace; and Barcelona, which has a major Picasso museum, have been competing to house the painting of the 1937 bombing of the Basque town by German planes.
"I deem it useful, as the artist's wife, to point out that I always heard him express the wish that the painting . . . once back in Spain, should hang in Madrid, in the Prado Museum," Mrs. Picasso wrote Spanish Prime Minister Adolfo Suarez.
