US hostages or families might tap Iran 'cold cash'

The 50 American hostages in Iran or their families might someday collect damages from the more than $8 billion in Iranian government assets seized by the United States, government officials said.

As part of President Carter's economic sanctions against Iran, the Treasury will set up procedures by which claims could be filed against those assets, which were frozen by President Carter in November after the hostages were seized.
