African objects
April 16, 1980
Traditional domestic art, including implements common to daily life in Africa , are being shown in an uncommon exhibition called African Furniture and Household Objects at the Indianapolis Museum of Art here.
The exhibition later begins a national tour to Kansas City, Missouri; San Francisco; Memphis; and New York.
The more than 260 items include baskets, pottery, beds, stools, headrests, games cooking utensils, and farming implements. Together they provide a rare view of African social and cultural customs, different from their ritual aspect of African life more commonly seen in such displays.
