Liberian ambassador regains his UN mission

The Liberian ambassador to the United Nations regained control of his country's UN mission this weekend when the young Liberians who held the mission for a week left peacefully on orders from Samuel Doe, the new Liberian head of state. M/Sgt. Doe April 12 led the coup that deposed and killed Liberian President William Tolbert.

Ambassador Winston Tubman, who was appointed permanent representative to the UN in January 1979, said he had received instructions from the new government in Monrovia to continue his duties in New York. He said the situation in Liberia was nearly back to normal, with most banks and shops open, and that Liberian foreign policy would not change.
