Greek Parliament names Caramanlis President

Prime Minister Constantine Caramanlis was elected President of Greece Monday by Parliament and immediately pledged to safeguard the democratic institutions he helped shape in his six-year premiership. He will succeed Constantine Tsatsos, a philosopher, whose five-year term ends in June.
