May 6, 1980

More than 1.7 million federally backed summer jobs, most designed for teen-agers from low-income families, will be available this year. Labor Secretary Ray Marshall said Monday the jobs should provide work opportunities for more than 90 percent of the disadvantaged youths expected in the labor market. The total federal outlay for the programs will be about $1 billion.
