Lilac hills rimmed my childhood in, With an ancient oak standing guard Like a giant holding the sky, And in the sunning, dancing hours, I built goblin acorn castles, And by the gnarled roots, I found Violets like drops of blue fire, And in the dreaming twilight shade I read the old stories and rhymes, Musing on what it meant to me. And once after a bursting storm, I climbed in the trembling of strength, Up the towering sway of limbs, Soaring to pinnacles of space, And clinging to the massive bark, I started down, a little pilgrim Perched peeking on a portal ledge, At the wide spinning world below, And marveled at what lay ahead.
