US guzzles less oil, imports plummet in April

Americans cut their demand for petroleum products by 6.9 percent in april as the nation's oil production rose and crude imports plummeted, the American Petroleum Institute reported Thursday. The oil industry trade association said domestic demand for gasoline fell 8.1 percent in April from year-earlier levels. US deliveries of unleaded gasoline climbed by 7.3 percent in April, however, in keeping with a long-term trend.
