Diggs's criminal appeal rejected by high court

The Supreme Court Monday refused to consider the appeal of US Rep. Charles C. Diggs Jr. (D) of Michigan, convicted in October 1978 on 29 counts of mail fraud and illegally diverting more than $60,000 of his congressional employees' salary to pay his personal debts. The decision clears the way for him to begin serving a three-year-prison term.
