Death-row convicts get convicted killer to appeal
June 6, 1980
Atlanta
A letter from fellow death-row inmates played an important part in persuading convicted murdered Jack Potts to appeal his sentence to the federal courts, Monitor correspondent Bob Press reports. Potts, turned down earlier by state courts here, was scheduled to be executed in the electric chair June 5. A federal judge granted him an indefinite stay of execution late June 4, just hours after Potts finally agreed to let lawyers file a federal appeal on his behalf.
