Teacher 'temps' hunt alternative careers

Teachers reacting to declining school enrollments and limited opportunities for advancement are choosing temporary work as a steppingstone to alternative careers, Manpower Inc., a temporary-help firm, reports.

Throughout the country the company has observed an increase in the number of teachers applying for temporary work. Fostered by cuts in school budgets caused by low enrollment, job insecurity may be just one of the reasons teachers have turned to temporary jobs.

Other factors may be simply a desire to supplement their income, to "recharge their batteries" for classes in fall, or to keep up with the newest office technology.
