It set "an unseemly tone for the upcoming campaign," Anderson claimed in denouncing a 10-page statement by the Democratic National Committee attacking his record as a congressman. The document contends that Anderson has a more conservative voting record than his progressive campaign rhetoric would indicate and cited examples.
He claimed that his record should be disputed by Jimmy Carter in "free and open debate" rather than by such means and he repudiated many of the accusations.
If "there is something deceitful if one ever changes his mind over the course of 20 years on a particular issue," Anderson said, then Carter himself "has quite a record to defend."
