Help on unsteaming double-paned window
August 1, 1980
Q. We have a large double-paned window that shows vapor condensing on the inner surfaces of the window. What can be done to correct this situation? Robert L. Amy Memphis
A. The factory-built vacuum between the two panes of glass has broken its seal and let in the air. This is unusual, of course, but it does impose an added expense for homeowners after the guarantee period has elapsed.
If the guarantee is still in force, of course, get in touch with the supplier for satisfaction.
Otherwise, you will have to have the window unit removed and a factory-built replacement installed. I am unaware of any way to restore the broken vacuum between the two shelves of glass on the job. Sorry.
