Simplified federal tax form being tested in California

A simplified federal tax form for unmarried taxpayers will be tested here next week. If it works and is approved by Congress, the Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday, other forms will be developed for married taxpayers filing jointly, married citizens filing separately, and for single heads of household.
The new form is written "in plain English" and includes only the computation tables specifically designed for the unmarried. Many filing mistakes occur because taxpayers pick the wrong table for their computation, form developers said.
