Burgers, pork chow mein to cost more -- for now

Supermarket beef prices will rise as much as 10 percent and consumers will have to pay up to 20 percent more for pork during the rest of 1980, an official of the National Live Stock and Meat Board says. Smaller meat production will bring on the price increases. But the board, which is the research and promotion arm of the red meat industry, said high prices for cattle will encourage producers to increase production, leading to greater supplies and more stable prices in the future.
