Roman villa unearthed; Greek temple destroyed?

Archaeologists working near Vidigueira have found the ruins of a Roman villa with its floor intact, making it a unique find in the Iberian Peninsula and perhaps the world. Excavation of the first century AD site will take five years to complete.

Meanwhile, in AThens, the Ministry of Culture ordered an investigation into a bureaucratic snafu that led to the destruction of what may have been a 3,000 -year-old Greek temple -- the oldest ever discovered. The site on the island of Evvoia was destroyed so a high school headmaster could build a summer home.
