New round of eruptions from Mt. St. Helens

Vancouver, Wash.
Mt. St. Helen's erupted four times in 48 hours around the weekend, and more eruptions are likely. Clouds from the eruptions drifted southeast, but scientists did not expect a significant amount of ashfall. Saturday evening, observers spotted a new lava dome rising to replace one destroyed during the latest activity. The latest series of eruptions -- the sixth since the volcano stirred awake in March from a 123-year slumber -- was preceded by warnings from scientists who noted increased seismic activity in the mountain. The Forecast Service said 92 people were evacuated from the area.
