The appeal of leading dissident and former presidential candidate Kim Dae Jung against sentence to death will begin on Friday, the martial-law authorities said. Mr. Kim was sentenced to death Sept. 17, having been found guilty of membership in a pro-north Korean Communist organization and of fomenting rebellion aimed at toppling the government by force. He has consistently denied the charges. Following the higher military court hearing, Kim has the right to appeal to the civilian Supreme Court. his final recourse is to appeal to President Chun Doo Hwan for clemency.
