Filipino opposition figure held in recent bombings

Jovito Salonga, a prominent opposition politician arrested as a suspect behind a recent series of bombings, was transferred from his hospital bed to a military detention center. The former senator was himself the victim of a bomb attack at a political rally in 1971, and has denied any involvement with the recent bombings. Meanwhile, 23 people accused of an abortive coup against President Marcos last January appeared before a military tribunal. Four charges , including conspiracy to assassinate the Philippines leader and illegal possession of firearms and explosives, were read. The accused included former Sen. Eva Estrada kalaw and another opposition figure, Ernesto Rondon. They are charged with planning to storm military establishments to seize firearms and explosives.
