Space shuttle engines pass muster in key test

A last full test of space shuttle motors before the first flight of Columbia, scheduled for March 17, was completed successfully at the National Space Technology Laboratory at Bay St. Louis, Miss. NASA said three engines identical to those in Columbia ran for 235 seconds. One was then deliberately shut down and the others burned for another 400 seconds u ntil fuel was exhausted.
