The administration has decided to aid Poland's cash-short government by allowing it to defer repayment of more than $80 million in debts, it was reported Monday. The Washington Post quoted State Department sources as saying the decision would be announced at meetings of representatives of Poland's Western creditors that began in Paris Monday.
In addition to the short-term help in the form of the debt deferral, the administration is studying a larger, more complex, long-range plan of aid to the Polish government, the newspaper quoted sources as saying. Other nations at the Paris meetings are expected to make pledges totaling between $600 million a nd $ 700 million.
