The first women's Olympic marathon will be run in the 1984 Summer Games here, Peter Ueberroth, the Los Angeles games president, said. The decision to hold the event, which will be separate from the men's marathon but run over the same course, was made by the International Olympic Committee at the first session of two days of talks.
The longest Olympic running event for women until now had been the 1,500 meters, far short of the 26 mile and 385 yard marathon.
