You an help uncover Britain's past by participating in an archaelogical dig this summer. It gives you a chance to make new friends and learn more about a period and place than you ever could from a history book, and can provide a temporary base for a few weeks -- an inexpensive way to rest before continuing your tarvels.

Archaeology does require patience, and you must be at least 16 years old and commit yourself to two weeks of work.

Volunteers work a 7-or 8-hour day, 5 or 6 days a week. Living conditions vary, ranging from primitive campsite to comfortable village hall. Warm clothes and waterproof garments are essential, as an English summer is often a wet summer.
