Walesa, Jaruzelski to talk despite brief strike

More than 300,000 workers staged a one-hour work stoppage Tuesday in Lodz, Poland's second largest city, dealing a blow to a fragile four-week- old truce between the government and the Solidarity free trade union. But officials said Solidarity leader Lech Walesa and Prime Minister Wojciech Jaruzelski were going ahead with their first direct talks.

The Lodz branch of Solidarity ignored an appeal by the union's national leaders to refrain from industrial action after the Warsaw authorities had met the main demand of the Lodz protes ters.
