Iraq going all out to get A-arms, Cranston says

Iraq is making an all-out effort to acquire the ability to make nuclear weapons, California Sen. Alan Cranston said.The Senate's assistant Democratic leader, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, based his claim on information he said he had received from the administration and various reports.

Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig Jr., asked about Senator Cranston's remarks, refused to comment specifically at an informal press conference in the Capitol. But he said the administration was opposed to nuclear proliferation and was concerned about events in Iraq and certain other cou ntries.
