Beginnings (for a marriage)
March 24, 1981
A few words to break the silence that slowly slowly descends on the cold world, -- to a different world, since the word compels the thought that could not bear the word, which is the thought of a new kind of silence -- the ripe moment before the new thing was birthed that sped you away from the place where you would have been, surely, had you not spoke. For such is the procession of speech out of the irrefrangible moment that what you released returned, clothed in the sureness that compelled you to let it go, until what is new in your life began to utter the unhurried speech that others joy in, since it bears testimony of itself and of what gave it too.
