US permits sale to Egypt of 2 A-plants and fuel

The United States and Egypt have signed a nuclear cooperation agreement permitting Egypt to buy from the US two 1,000-megawatt nuclear power stations and the enriched uranium needed to fuel them, US Embassy officials said.

An embassy statement said Egypt could acquire nuclear energy for peaceful uses after its ratification of the nonproliferation treaty last month.
