Iran's speaker plays down peace efforts in Gulf war

The speaker of Iran's Majilis (parliament) dismissed the efforts of missions seeking an end to the Iranian war with Iraq, saying they would have no effect without a total Iranian victory and the overthrow of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Hojatolislam Hashemi Rafsanjani, quoted on state radio, contrasted with the more moderate line being taken by Preside nt Abolhassan Bani-Sadr.
